 INTRODUCTION
The courses offered in the Business Management & Administration and Finance career cluster are designed to provide students the practical, integrated learning experiences necessary for success in competitive business careers.  The organization and delivery of instruction in these courses will adhere to the model developed by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.  The content will focus on high performance skills in the career-related areas and the use of current technology.

 Business Management & Administration/Management & Entrepreneurship   

 The Business Management and Administration cluster includes the Management pathway which prepares students for careers as entrepreneurs and business managers.  These courses will provide students with fundamental concepts, principles, and ideas needed to understand the foundation of business management and entrepreneurship. Students will learn how to develop a business plan, identify market needs, marketing skills, analyzing the growth of today’s marketplace, insurance concepts pertaining to business, maintaining records and accounting processes, managing finances, integrating technology into the business functions, applying legal, ethical and social obligations.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of Business Management/Entrepreneurship or Finance/Bookkeeping careers students will:
1)      Demonstrate a professional understanding of the business environment, technology and skills needed for success in business careers.
2)      Apply skills, technology, concepts, and principles needed in a competitive business environment.
3)      Successfully complete the certifications necessary for the career outcomes.
4)      Apply skills that will enhance opportunities to gain and maintain productive employment.

  ASSESSMENTS and GRADES
Assignments and projects will be assessed using a variety of assessment methods. Your grade will be based on the following grading scale as approved by the Mid-America Board of Education:

A—90 to 100%
B—80 to 89%
C—70 to 79%
D—60 to 69%
F—Below 60%

 *** Students must have an overall average of 70% to be eligible for a Certificate.

 ATTENDANCE
The success of a business is greatly influenced by the dependability and productivity of its employees, which is impacted by their attendance at work.  Meaningful instruction and hands-on activities will be delivered each day therefore being in school every day is an important part of the curriculum at Mid-America.

  WORKFORCE STAGING, CAPSTONE AND INTERNSHIPS
Each career major offered will include a workplace observation or workplace simulation course.  This course is designed to be delivered as an integrated component within the course taken by the individual student.  The purpose of the course is for personal development, leadership and employability skills. Students may also undertake special projects, cross-train or participate in workplace learning opportunities to enhance skills in accordance with industry demands.

  COLLEGE CREDIT
Mid-America Technology Center has established an agreement for receiving college credit for certain coursework you complete.  College credit is available at Oklahoma City Community College.  Students have the opportunity to earn 21 college credit hours within each career pathway.

  STUDENT DRESS CODE
Businesses are judged by the appearance and conduct of employees. In a like manner, a school is judged many times by the actions and appearance of students.  Students are expected to dress in social good taste and in accordance with the occupation they are pursuing. Wearing of caps and hats is prohibited in the front halls and cafeteria of the main building. House shoes and Pajama Pants are not allowed.  Hem line of shorts or skirts must reach below fingertips.  Tank tops and spaghetti straps are not allowed.  Please refer to the student handbook for additional requirements.

DISCIPLINE POLICY
1)      Professional behavior is expected at all times and the classroom guidelines will help you know what is expected of you!
2)      Minor offenses will be handled with two verbal reprimands.  If the offense occurs a third time, the student will be referred to the principal or a counselor.
3)      Major offenses that are disrespectful, disruptive, or harmful to someone or to the equipment will result in immediate classroom removal and referral to the principal or counselor.

 CLASSROOM GUIDELINES   

 I.                   Punctuality

  1. Come to class on time and dressed in appropriate attire
  2. Students who arrive after 8:15 a.m. or 12:50 p.m. are late and will need to check in through the front office
  3. Three tardies will result in a conference with the principal or counselor
  4. Five absences result in a disciplinary report and the student will be referred to the principal.

 II.                Professional Behavior

  1. Show good work ethics by staying on task
  2. Complete assignments on time
  3. Refrain from using inappropriate language in class
  4. Cell phones are to be turned off during school hours, not vibrate or silent
  5. Be professional at all times.

 III.             Supplies and Equipment

  1. Students are responsible for all books checked out by the instructor.  Only books that are checked out may leave the classroom.  Grades will be held until each book is returned or paid for.
  2. Use supplies conservatively.  Computer printing is limited to class assignments only.
  3. Exercise proper care of equipment and supplies.  Report equipment problems to the instructor immediately.
  4. Do not sit on classroom tables
  5. Be in the designated area during break time—STANDING OR SITTING IN THE HALLWAY WILL NOT BE PERMITTED!

 IV.             Clean-up

  1. Know your clean-up duty and do it without reminder
  2. Leave books and equipment in appropriate order
  3. Remain seated in your chair until the last bells rings, and then carefully push your office chair under your workstation.

 V.                Attitude

  1. Become a professional team member
  2. Show initiative
  3. Challenge yourself—set your daily goals high
  4. One should be respectful and courteous to EVERYONE
