Licensed Practical Nurse
The next course will begin August 10, 2016 and end June 15, 2017. It consists of intense classroom and clinical experiences leading up to [eligibility to apply for] licensure as a practical nurse.
The Practical Nursing course is ten (10) months in length and consists of 1463 clock hours (45 of those hours are advanced standing for Medical Terminology which is a prerequisite). Each year the program begins in August and finishes in June. Students interested in this program can prepare now by taking a medical terminology course for college credit or from Mid-America Technology Center and a Healthcare provider CPR course, as both are required before entry. A certified nurse assistant course is suggested. The entrance test required during the application process is the TEAS V (Test of Essential Academic Skills). Study guides and practice tests for this are available for purchase from www.atitesting.com.
Application Process: The application period is February 1, 2016 to April 15, 2016. Applicants must submit a High-School Transcript or GED scores, and Birth Certificate. Applicants are also required to complete the pre-entrance test, orientation and personal interview. Prerequisites are Medical Terminology either college transcripted or taken at Mid-America, and BLS for Healthcare Provders CPR. Mid-America Technology Center students who successfully complete all the courses in their career major and pass the common assessment(s) are considered a career major completer.
Positive placement for MATC students are defined as follows:
Employed related to the career major or career cluster
Continuing their education
Enlisted in the Military
