Mid-America Technology Center recently provided a specialized Steam Turbine training class at their facility in Wayne, OK. This class was presented by the Elliott Group from Jeannette, PA, for the maintenance employees at the Wynnewood Refinery (a CVR Energy company).

These Wynnewood employees maintain, service, and troubleshoot more than 250 turbines within the plant at the Wynnewood facility. This specialized training was requested from the refinery to enhance the skill level of their Maintenance Pump Mechanics and Industrial Millwrights.

The men spent a week with Gabe Jordan, Technical Trainer with the Elliot Group, understanding steam turbine theory, components, functions, governors, operations, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance of the YR Steam Turbine. A 2120 lb. training turbine was also provided for the men to disassemble/assemble for the “hands-on” aspect of the training and to gain a better understanding of the internal parts of the turbine.
