Congratulations … Kara Murphy Selected as Southwest District SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year!

Kara Murphy, MATC’s Horticulture teacher, was recently selected as the Southwest District SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year. Kara is one of the hardest working advisors in Oklahoma SkillsUSA and is MATC’s “go-to” woman. She keeps her local chapter thriving and assists the Southwest District and State SkillsUSA in many aspects.

She works with local, district, and state students to achieve success, helps the Southwest district by working with the district officers and district contests, and is a state officer advisor.

Kara is truly not in this for the recognition; she is a nose-down get the job done person. Her main focus is caring for and helping students and putting her local, district, and state chapters on the map

She spends many hours, both at school and at home, to help students be the most they can be and finds ways to bring out the best in each individual. Kara is a great mentor, motivator and is always there to offer encouragement.

Even during the pandemic, Kara found projects to help our community, such as have students make more than 200 handwritten Christmas cards for nursing homes.

She is an advisor who works behind the scenes, always helping students and Oklahoma SkillsUSA flourish.

Kara will compete, in June, at the 2021 SkillsUSA Oklahoma Virtual State Conference for Oklahoma SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year. The MATC administration, faculty, and staff are 100% behind Kara and know she will always make us proud!
