Students at Mid-America Technology Center (MATC) now have access to meals, clothing and classroom supplies through the new District 8 Hub Store, made possible by an $84,000 donation from CVR Energy. The store is designed to help students meet everyday needs so they can focus on learning and preparing for their futures.
Hunger, the cost of clothing, and the expense of classroom supplies can create obstacles before a student even walks through the door. The District 8 Hub Store addresses those needs by offering free or low-cost meals and clothing, along with supply kits tailored to career-tech programs.
When a student is worried about where their next meal is coming from or whether they have the right gear for class, it's hard to focus on learning," said Mike Eubank, Superintendent of MATC. "We're grateful to CVR Energy for investing in our students this way. This store removes some of those barriers so our students can show up ready to work, build their skills, and take full advantage of the opportunities in front of them. That's what we mean when we tell students to Discover Your Competitive Advantage.
These resources are intended to help students arrive ready to participate and make the most of their education. They can also ease the financial pressure on families working to cover everyday expenses.
Student privacy is central to the store's design. In the coming months, students will be able to pay for items with their MATC ID badges through a student account. Some students qualify to receive items at no cost, and the badge system gives every student the same simple checkout experience. The goal is to make getting support a normal, comfortable part of the school experience for every student.
The District 8 Hub Store has a simple purpose: giving students access to the essentials that help them succeed. With its generous donation, CVR Energy is helping MATC offer practical assistance that keeps students focused on the opportunities ahead. The gift reflects CVR Energy's deep commitment to strengthening the communities where its employees live and work, and to developing the next generation of skilled workers.
