2026 Carpentry House
About the House
Each year, students from multiple MATC programs work together to turn classroom training into a real-world construction project by building a complete home.
The project begins with Computer-Aided Drafting & Design (CADD) students contributing to the design and planning of the home. From there, Carpentry students bring those plans to life, gaining hands-on experience throughout the residential construction process. Plumbing students install the home’s plumbing systems, Electrical students complete the wiring and electrical components needed to power the home, and HVAC students install the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems that provide comfort and climate control.
Throughout the build, students experience what it is like to work alongside other skilled trades on an actual job site. They learn how their individual roles fit into a much larger construction process while gaining practical experience following plans, coordinating with other trades, solving real-world challenges, and completing work that will become part of a finished home.
Once construction is complete, the Carpentry House is offered for sale through a public auction. Proceeds from the sale help support future house projects and provide funding that benefits programs across MATC.
From the initial design to the final sale, the Carpentry House is more than a construction project. It is a collaborative learning experience that gives students the opportunity to apply their training to a real home while working alongside other programs and contributing to future opportunities for MATC students.
