Firefighter Training
MidAmerica Technology Center’s Professional Resource Outreach (PRO) provides skills training to volunteer fire departments using state grant funding* designated specifically for firefighter training. This support helps ensure that volunteer firefighters do not have to pay for training, books, or testing.
Through ongoing instruction in skills, systems, equipment, and certifications, MATC – PRO plays an important role in improving the safety and well-being of communities across Oklahoma.
*Because annual grant funding is limited, we welcome and encourage input from local volunteer fire departments on how funds are applied to best meet their specific training needs. Training can be tailored to a single department or offered as joint classes with participants from multiple departments.
Training length varies based on the type and complexity of the course, ranging from a few hours to several months. MATC – PRO Firefighter Training helps volunteers maintain certifications, stay current with risk benefits, and build a strong support network they can rely on. Most training is tuition-free for qualified volunteer firefighters and departments through the Oklahoma Firefighting Training Initiative.
