Mid-America Technology Center works to help keep rural, volunteer fire departments staffed with properly trained professionals.

Mid-America Technology Center (MATC) provides skills training to volunteer fire departments by utilizing state grant money* specifically intended for firefighter training. This ensures that volunteer firefighters do not have to pay for training, books, or testing. By providing continual training on skills, systems, equipment, and certifications, MATC is able to contribute to the improved safety and welfare of Oklahoma’s residents.

*Since annual grant money is limited, we welcome and encourage input from local volunteer fire departments on how to apply the funds to courses that meet their exact training needs. This training can be specific to one fire department or classes comprised of firefighters from multiple departments.

Depending on the type and complexity of the training needed, MATC Firefighter training can vary from a few hours to months in duration. Our firefighter training helps volunteers maintain their certifications, keep up with risk benefits, and build a support network upon which they can rely. Firefighter Training is tuition-free for qualified volunteer firefighters and departments through the Oklahoma Firefighting Training Initiative.
